AI is being used creatively by numerous companies, but Aircast.Tech aims to improve fan experiences at golf tournaments and other sporting events.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Penn. — Startup founders, technology experts and golf industry insiders from around the world gathered in a hospitality tent perched above the 17th tee at Aronimink Golf Club on Tuesday to not only catch a glimpse of the players as they practiced on the long par 3, but also participate in the third-annual Golfweek Tech Lab.

Think of the event as the “Shark Tank” of golf, with small companies from a variety of sectors trying to impress a panel of judges with solutions to challenges that face the world of golf and sports.

As you might expect, two words that were inescapable at the 2026 Golfweek Tech Lab: artificial intelligence.

Golf.AI is using the technology to create agents that can provide personalized answers when golfers call a club or resort. Bantee uses it to not only allow players to share their round on a customized social media platform, but also build customized buddy trips after picking a region, how much golf they want to play and where they want to stay.

After the judges had a chance to see and talk with each company, however, it was Aircast.Tech that emerged as not only the winner in the Media & Digital Solutions category, but also the Grand Prize winner.

Clubhaus won in the Business Solutions category and Groove Golf won in Player Performance. Piing.Events won in Fan Engagement.

Founded by Australian native Craig Horobin, Aircast is tackling a problem that almost every modern sports fan has experienced: live sports that no longer feel truly live.

Whether it’s a text message from a friend spoiling a touchdown before it appears on your screen or trying to stream video from a crowded golf course where the signal constantly buffers, delays have become an accepted frustration of the streaming era. Aircast is attempting to eliminate much of that lag by delivering synchronized video and audio feeds to mobile devices in less than a second, even inside crowded venues.

“It just gives fans added context to what’s going on,” Horobin said. “Not just right in front of them, but on other holes as well.”

For golf, the application is obvious.

Fans standing beside a green or tee could use a tournament’s existing app to instantly switch between featured groups, alternate camera angles, commentary feeds and replays happening elsewhere on the course without dealing with the 30- to 60-second delays that plague most streaming services.

Horobin said Aircast’s technology is designed to work quietly in the background through software embedded into existing apps rather than forcing fans to download yet another platform.

“What we want to do is be as frictionless as possible,” Horobin said. “If the PGA integrated our SDK into their app, once a fan got on site, geo-fencing would detect that they’re there and they would be able to access the feeds available over that network.”

The technology also addresses one of the biggest challenges facing live sports venues: overloaded cellular networks.

At large sporting events, even sending a text message or uploading a photo can become difficult once tens of thousands of fans are concentrated in one area. Horobin said Aircast minimizes bandwidth requirements by transmitting feeds in a one-way distribution model rather than relying on the constant back-and-forth data traffic of traditional streaming systems.

“It doesn’t congest or contend the network,” Horobin said. “We section off a small part of the network and make sure people can access those feeds directly from broadcast.”

While golf presents a natural use case because fans are spread across an entire property, Aircast has already gained traction in tennis, another sport where multiple matches happen simultaneously. The company has worked with the Australian Open and is preparing to support other tennis events this summer.

Horobin founded Aircast in 2017 while working in broadcast technology for major international events, including the Olympic Games, FIFA World Cups and Commonwealth Games. What began as a side project became a full-time focus during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the shutdown of live events allowed him and his small team to fully develop the platform.

“There’s been companies in the past that have tried this and not been successful,” Horobin said. “For us, awareness is huge. It’s getting people to realize this is available.”

And if Aircast succeeds, the next evolution of watching sports may not involve choosing between being at home or attending in person.

It could finally deliver the best parts of both experiences at the same time.

Bettinardi Tour Ambassador wins alongside younger brother, setting a tournament record en route to his third victory in four starts

Tinley Park, Ill. — Bettinardi Golf congratulates Tour Ambassador Matt Fitzpatrick on winning the 2026 Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside his younger brother, claiming back-to-back PGA TOUR victories in consecutive weeks and his third win in four starts this season.

The Fitzpatrick brothers entered Sunday’s alternate-shot finale with a four-stroke lead after posting a tournament-record 15-under 57 in Saturday’s round. They battled nerves and a tightening leaderboard through the back nine before Matt delivered when it mattered most, escaping a greenside bunker on the par-5 18th and leaving Alex a tap-in birdie to seal a one-stroke victory at 31-under 257. The win came with Matt’s Tour Department DASS BB1 Flow in the bag, the same putter he used to win the RBC Heritage, Valspar Championship, and finish 2nd at The Players Championship.

“To win a team event on the PGA Tour with my brother — I don’t know if it gets better than that,” Fitzpatrick said. “That’s how special it feels. To get over the line the way we did and hang in there on the back nine is incredible.”

Fitzpatrick returned to the BB1 Flow earlier this season after a brief run with a BB48 mallet prototype. Since putting the blade back in play, he has climbed from 24th to 3rd in the Official World Golf Rankings, and now ranked #1 on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup.  His three PGA TOUR wins this season remain the only three decided with a blade putter: a quiet counterpoint to the mallet trend dominating Tour fields.

“Winning back-to-back is special enough on its own but doing it alongside your brother is something else entirely,” said Sam Bettinardi, President of Bettinardi Golf. “Matt’s been on an incredible run these past few weeks, and we’re very proud to be part of this moment, and to be the makers of the putter he trusts through every win.”

Fitzpatrick’s victory adds to Bettinardi’s rich heritage of more than 100 professional victories worldwide, and further establishes his position atop the FedEx Cup standings. The BB Series is available now at bettinardi.com and through authorized retailers.

KBS wins again at the LECOM Classic, Easter Sunday delivered one of the most dramatic finishes in LECOM Suncoast Classic history, and it was 29-year-old Frenchman Jeremy Gandon who came out on top. Gandon birdied each of his final three holes to close with a 6-under 65 and finish at 22-under par, sinking a clutch 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th green to claim his second Korn Ferry Tour title

Gandon’s iron game was the engine of his week at the Commander Course, and at the heart of it were his Callaway Apex irons loaded with KBS C-Taper shafts. The C-Taper is one of KBS’s most decorated iron shafts on professional tours — a low-launch, low-spin profile with a firm tip that rewards players who compress the ball and want predictable, penetrating flight into greens.

J.J. Spaun breaks slump, wins Valero Texas Open ahead of Masters https://ultragolfing.com/j-j-spaun-breaks-slump-wins-valero-texas-open-ahead-of-masters/ https://ultragolfing.com/j-j-spaun-breaks-slump-wins-valero-texas-open-ahead-of-masters/#respond Mon, 06 Apr 2026 02:39:50 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/j-j-spaun-breaks-slump-wins-valero-texas-open-ahead-of-masters/

J.J. Spaun had a dream season in 2025. But for the first few months of his follow-up campaign, things looked more like a nightmare.

Through seven starts entering this week, Spaun had made just three cuts, with a T24 finish standing as his high-water mark. His strokes-gained metrics had declined across the board, and his putting was so poor that he ranked among the 10 worst on Tour.

At TPC San Antonio, none of that mattered.

Spaun, playing this week as a final tune-up before the Masters, fired a final-round 67 to win the Valero Texas Open by one shot over Matt Wallace, Michael Kim and Robert MacIntyre. The victory marked Spaun’s second at the Texas Open (he also won in 2022) and the third of his PGA Tour career.

“I haven’t been in the form I wanted based on last season,” Spaun said. “It means a lot to come back and win here at a place that’s been so good to me.”

Returning to a course filled with positive memories proved to be the spark he needed. At the Players, Spaun recorded his best finish of the season to that point with a T24. He missed the cut the following week at the Valspar, but a return to the familiar setting of the Texas Hill Country seemed to bring something out of him.

After opening with back-to-back rounds of 69, Spaun surged over the weekend in soggy conditions. With play suspended midway through his third round on Saturday, he returned early Sunday morning to complete a six-under 66, putting himself firmly in contention. When the final round began, he kept the momentum rolling, carding four birdies and an eagle en route to a five-under 67 to claim the clubhouse lead. When none of the contenders on the course could track him down, the burden of his nightmare start had finally been lifted.

“I put a lot of pressure on myself at the start of the year, and a lot of expectations,” Spaun said. “It’s the complete opposite of the mantra I had all year last year that really helped me, so I tried to get back to that. Went into the last few weeks starting at The Players just trying to be freed up and put less pressure on myself. It’s been trying, but sticking to that mantra has really helped me.”

With the win, Spaun earns a custom pair of cowboy boots and a $1.76 million paycheck. More importantly, he heads to Augusta for the Masters in his best form of the season — and you can’t put a price tag on that.

The Red Label was back in the winner’s circle at the Waste Management Open after a pressure-packed Sunday finish. Trusting KBS C-Taper 130 X shafts in his Bridgestone irons, the champion leaned on unmatched control and stability when the desert heat was turned all the way up.

After a composed front nine, the back nine became the battleground. A gritty up-and-down on 13 kept the chase alive. Birdies on 15 and 17 ignited the momentum. Then, with everything on the line at 18, he stepped up and flushed an iron shot powered by KBS C-Taper 130 X, setting up a stress-free two-putt par to lock down the win by one shot.

Essex’s Harley Smith wins Portuguese Amateur – Golf News https://ultragolfing.com/essexs-harley-smith-wins-portuguese-amateur-golf-news/ https://ultragolfing.com/essexs-harley-smith-wins-portuguese-amateur-golf-news/#respond Tue, 17 Feb 2026 03:14:03 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/essexs-harley-smith-wins-portuguese-amateur-golf-news/

England’s Harley Smith, 20, won the 2026 Portuguese Amateur by a whopping six shots on Saturday at Amendoeira Golf Resort’s Faldo Course.

The Rayleigh golfer turned in rounds of 71-66-70-72 for a 9-under 279 total.

Born in Essex and raised in the England set-up, Smith has long been seen as a standout talent, rising to European No. 1, winning both the McGregor and Carris Trophies in 2021, and later adding the English Men’s Amateur Championship in 2024, plus a professional win on the Clutch Pro Tour at just 16.

His efforts mean the trophy remains in English hands after England Men’s Squad star Eliot Baker lifted it last year.

This year, Baker (Tiverton, Devon) finished tied-20th, while fellow England Men’s Squad player Ben Bolton (Enville, Staffordshire) finished 7th.

English pair Kris Kim (Wentworth, Surrey) and George Saunders (Liphook, Hampshire) also enjoyed top-10 finishes, finishing 5th and tied-10th respectively.

ECCO GOLF ambassador, Thomas Bjørn, delivered an impressive performance at the Stifel Charity Classic for his first individual victory on the PGA TOUR Champions.

Bjørn, wearing ECCO GOLF LT1, shot a final round four-under-par 67 to get into a playoff – where he would triumph on the first sudden death hole.

His victory this week at Norwood Hills Country Club marks his second title of 2025, after winning the American Family Insurance Championship back in June.

Commenting on his second victory of 2025, Bjørn said: “I played so well this year, I got close in a few of the majors and I think when you’re in those senior major championships where you’re going up against some really strong guys that eventually you’re going to get over the line, eventually something’s going to go your way.”

Timo Vollrath, Head of Global Marketing at ECCO GOLF, commented on Bjørn’s latest triumph: “Thomas has been a stalwart of ECCO GOLF for many years, and we’re delighted to see him thriving on the PGA TOUR Champions.

“It’s a privilege to work with Thomas, and he is a fantastic ambassador for ECCO GOLF shoes. We look forward to continuing to support him going forward!” he added.
