ECCO GOLF ambassador, Thomas Bjørn, delivered an impressive performance at the Stifel Charity Classic for his first individual victory on the PGA TOUR Champions.

Bjørn, wearing ECCO GOLF LT1, shot a final round four-under-par 67 to get into a playoff – where he would triumph on the first sudden death hole.

His victory this week at Norwood Hills Country Club marks his second title of 2025, after winning the American Family Insurance Championship back in June.

Commenting on his second victory of 2025, Bjørn said: “I played so well this year, I got close in a few of the majors and I think when you’re in those senior major championships where you’re going up against some really strong guys that eventually you’re going to get over the line, eventually something’s going to go your way.”

Timo Vollrath, Head of Global Marketing at ECCO GOLF, commented on Bjørn’s latest triumph: “Thomas has been a stalwart of ECCO GOLF for many years, and we’re delighted to see him thriving on the PGA TOUR Champions.

“It’s a privilege to work with Thomas, and he is a fantastic ambassador for ECCO GOLF shoes. We look forward to continuing to support him going forward!” he added.

In addition to Thomas Bjørn, ECCO GOLF shoes are worn in competition around the world by Lydia Ko, Thorbjørn Olesen, Alison Lee, Erik van Rooyen, Henrik Stenson, Freddy Schott, Janet Lin, Rick Shiels and Erik Anders Lang among others. FREDDY SCHOTT WINS MAIDEN DP WORLD TOUR TITLE – Golf News https://ultragolfing.com/freddy-schott-wins-maiden-dp-world-tour-title-golf-news/ https://ultragolfing.com/freddy-schott-wins-maiden-dp-world-tour-title-golf-news/#respond Sat, 07 Feb 2026 18:26:56 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/freddy-schott-wins-maiden-dp-world-tour-title-golf-news/

Freddy Schott claimed his maiden DP World Tour title in dramatic fashion after a tense play off at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship, edging out Calum Hill and Patrick Reed at Royal Golf Club.

Maiden victory decided in play off drama

Schott finished tied at 17 under par after 72 holes alongside Hill and Reed, with the trio returning to the 18th for a sudden death play off. Reed had charged into contention with a closing 67 to overturn a four shot deficit, while Hill posted a 71 after starting the day two clear. Schott’s steady 69 was enough to earn a place in the decider.

Reed was the first to fall away after a bogey on the opening extra hole. Hill then suffered a cruel twist when he sent his tee shot out of bounds on the second play off hole and followed it with a shot into the water. With Schott safely positioned, the Scot conceded before his rival was required to hole out, handing the German his first Tour victory.

Schott soaks up an unforgettable moment

Presented with the trophy by His Royal Highness Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, an emotional Schott struggled to put the achievement into words.

“I have no idea. It’s just amazing, I’m extremely happy and surprised. I don’t really know what’s happening right now,” he said. “I could have done it the regular way and that would have been fine, but to do it this way feels even more special.”

Reflecting on the closing stages, Schott added that he deliberately walked between holes late in the round to calm his nerves and stay present. “These are the moments you play golf for. I’m just glad I got it over the line and we’ll see what the future holds.”

Final round swings and near misses

Hill had earlier threatened to run away with the title, adding to his overnight lead with an opening birdie and stretching four clear after five holes. Momentum swung repeatedly as both players mixed birdies with costly mistakes, including doubles for each on the back nine.

Sergio Garcia and Reed also applied pressure, while Daniel Hillier set the clubhouse target at 16 under with a blemish free 66. Reed briefly reached 18 under but dropped a shot late on, while Hill’s bogey at the last allowed Schott to save par and force the play off.

Hill and Reed eventually shared second place on 17 under, with Garcia and Hillier tied for fourth and Ugo Coussaud finishing sixth.

Growing the game and record crowds in Bahrain

Beyond the leaderboard, the tournament continued to play a key role in developing golf in the Kingdom. Local players Ahmed Alzayed, Ali Alkowari and Khalifa Almaraisi all gained valuable experience competing alongside Major champions, even though they missed the cut.

The event also attracted record interest from fans, with a crowd of 13,186 across four days representing a 30 per cent increase on last year. Spectators enjoyed a festival atmosphere featuring live music, family activities and the Championship Village, underlining Bahrain’s growing reputation as a destination for world class sport.

Organisers have already invited fans to register interest for the 2027 edition as the Championship looks to build on another memorable week at Royal Golf Club.

INTERVIEW: RORY WINS SEVENTH EUROPEAN ORDER OF MERIT TITLE https://ultragolfing.com/interview-rory-wins-seventh-european-order-of-merit-title/ https://ultragolfing.com/interview-rory-wins-seventh-european-order-of-merit-title/#respond Sat, 24 Jan 2026 17:41:34 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/interview-rory-wins-seventh-european-order-of-merit-title/

Ahead of reflecting on the historic milestone of surpassing Severiano Ballesteros, Rory Mcllory breaks down a turbulent afternoon that began with total control, veered through costly stumbles, and ended with a stunning eagle at 18,setting the stage for a playoff and a season-defining achievement.

Q. Before we talk about winning The Race to Dubai again, let’s talk about today and the events that unfolded, eagling the last, again. Tell us about today from your point of view?

Yeah, got off to the perfect start. 3-under through five, 4-under through seven. Felt like I had sort of taken control of the golf tournament. Was a couple ahead.

Then, yeah, I made two bogeys on the way in on 12 and 16 and didn’t birdie 14 and 15, the birdie holes. Obviously knew I needed something to happen on the last. I actually hit a great shot on 17, ended up a little short. Hit a great putt that lipped-out.

On the last, I knew what I had to do. I hit a great 5-wood. Lucky to see Rasmus’s putt before mine. His hung out a little bit before it started to turn, so got a read from him. It was a great way to finish, making the playoff.

But unfortunately hit it in the water there on 18 in the playoff. Just sort of put me behind the 8-ball. But happy for Matt. He’s had a great end of the season. Played great to get on the Ryder Cup Team, and then he sort of kept it going since, so really happy for him as well.

Last year you equaled Severiano Ballesteros’s Race to Dubai titles, and this year you surpassed him. Tell us how it feels to surpass his title.

I had a course with his wife, Carmen, before I went out to play today, and she told me how proud he would have been. You know, I said this on this green last year, he means so much to this tour and to the European Ryder Cup Team. We rally so much around his spirit and his quotes and everything he meant for European golf.

To equal him last year was cool but to surpass him this year, yeah, I didn’t get this far in my dreams, so it’s very cool.

Now just one behind Colin Montgomerie’s 8th record title. You don’t need it, but how much do you want it?

I want it, of course I do. I caught up with Monty this week when he was here a couple days ago and I saw him. Look, it seems within touching distance now. I’d love to be the winningest European in terms of Order of Merits and season-long races.

You know, I’ve probably got a few more good years left in me, and hopefully I can catch him and surpass him.
