McLaren Golf Launches With Debut Series 1 and Series 3 Irons https://ultragolfing.com/mclaren-golf-launches-with-debut-series-1-and-series-3-irons/ https://ultragolfing.com/mclaren-golf-launches-with-debut-series-1-and-series-3-irons/#respond Sun, 24 May 2026 23:18:33 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/mclaren-golf-launches-with-debut-series-1-and-series-3-irons/

McLaren’s new venture, McLaren Golf, today announces its official launch alongside the introduction of its debut irons; the Series 1 and Series 3.

First unveiled in March, McLaren Golf represents a natural evolution of the brand’s high-performance mindset – translating decades of engineering expertise from motorsports and automotive design into the game of golf.

Built by a dedicated team of golf industry specialists and world-class engineers who have been immersed in McLaren’s ways, the new venture is focused on delivering precision equipment for golfers who share McLaren’s obsession with detail.

“We’ve been working toward this moment for some time and there’s a real sense of anticipation in seeing it all come to life,” said Neil Howie, CEO of McLaren Golf. “Behind the scenes, we challenged every part of the process – from materials to construction – to uphold the exacting standards and constant pursuit of excellence that define McLaren. To now introduce these irons to the world and see them in the hands of golfers is incredibly exciting.”

Engineering Without Limits

At the core of McLaren Golf is a question: If there were no constraints, no legacy processes, no material limitations – what could a golf club become?

In the irons category, McLaren Golf’s answer begins with Metal Injection Molding (MIM), an advanced and highly specialized manufacturing process rarely used at scale in golf due to its complexity and cost.

McLaren Golf utilizes MIM for precision control over material composition, internal geometry and mass distribution – unlocking a level of freedom not possible through traditional forging or casting. Every gram of weight, every structural element and every performance characteristic can be intentionally designed.

It is a granular process that aligns with the same philosophy McLaren applies to its supercars and race team: no detail too small, no gain too marginal.

Henrik Wilhelmsmeyer, Chief Commercial Officer, McLaren Automotive said:

“McLaren Golf translates the precision and performance mindset that defines our brand into a new, relevant context. It’s a strategic extension of McLaren – designed for those who value performance, craftmanship and purpose.”

Series 1 – A Modern Tour Blade

The Series 1 is a Tour blade reimagined, engineered to challenge the assumption that true blades lack forgiveness. At address, it presents a clean, compact profile inspired by the classic muscle-back. However, beneath the surface, proprietary metal blends and precise internal weighting create a structure that enhances consistency and stability while preserving the pure feel elite players demand.

Designed in conjunction with McLaren Golf Tour player Justin Rose, and with input from other top Tour players, the proprietary metal composition, formed through the MIM process, is engineered to deliver the preferred sound and feel of a forged iron. MIM also opens the door for a unified internal weighting system that adds to the consistency, stability and overall function of the iron – effectively adding forgiveness to a blade without sacrificing workability.

Within the weight system, a significant area of tungsten is embedded within the back of the iron head to ensure a solid feel while also promoting consistent launch properties.

McLaren Structural Mesh is another defining element of Series 1’s architecture. The honeycomb-inspired pattern, also utilized on McLaren supercars, maintains rigidity and face strength while removing mass from non-critical areas. That saved weight is redistributed to provide perimeter stability, increase MOI (Moment of Inertia) and fine-tune CG (Center of Gravity), delivering added forgiveness while preserving a compact, Tour-trusted profile.

With dual-axis CG (both horizontal and vertical) uniquely optimized in each iron, Series 1 is designed for the skilled player who values shot-making above all else. We made this iron for the golfer who wants complete command of trajectory, spin and shape – and expects their equipment to respond without hesitation.

Series 3 – A Powerhouse Among Players Distance Irons

Featuring a powerful engine built around its Metal Injection Molded frame, Series 3 is a complete performance system. Internal weighting and carbon fiber elements work in unison, positioning the center of gravity with precision and stabilizing the club through impact.

The result is scintillating speed, responsive control and vibration-dampening feel.

Enabled by MIM, the internal geometry of each iron is precisely engineered to optimize weight distribution and performance throughout the set.

As with its Series 1 counterpart, a key innovation is the McLaren Structural Mesh – an intricate external architecture that redistributes mass away from non-critical areas while maintaining structural strength. This allows for increased stability and forgiveness, while preserving a clean, player-preferred profile.

Series 3 features a carbon-fiber bonnet along the back of the iron as an aesthetic nod to the brand’s racing and automotive heritage. However, this piece is about more than just looks and serves as a critical performance element. As an integrated component within the overall structure, it also impacts vibration management – refining sound and feel at impact while housing the unique calibration weight system.

Along the bottom, Series 3’s unique heel cut sole design generates speed through the ground and resistance-relief on imperfect strikes. Collectively, the sole geometry is engineered to reduce drag and control turf interaction through impact. Camber, leading edge curvature and heel cut relief work together to manage how the club enters and exits the ground – maintaining clubhead speed at the most critical stage of the swing.

“Our technology and manufacturing efficiencies, with both Series 1 and Series 3, allow us to start strong and immediately compete with industry front runners,” said Head of Engineering, Ryan Badgero. “It starts with Metal Injection Molding, which gives us complete control over material chemistry, geometry and mass distribution. That level of control allows us to design each iron as part of a system, where we have a vision and pre-determined goal that we’re able to engineer into reality.”

Both Series 1 and Series 3 irons will be priced at $375 USD / £360 GBP per club (in a stock configuration) and will initially be available in North America, Europe and South Korea through select custom fitting retailers starting from April 30, 2026 and online in North America at mclarengolf.com.

McLaren Golf is supported by 8AM Golf as a key partner, providing support and consultation through a variety of golf specific services. 8AM Golf is a holding company consisting of golf businesses and brands that are dedicated to helping golfers at every level enjoy the game more.

WILSON GOLF UNVEILS NEW STAFF MODEL IRONS https://ultragolfing.com/wilson-golf-unveils-new-staff-model-irons/ https://ultragolfing.com/wilson-golf-unveils-new-staff-model-irons/#respond Thu, 23 Apr 2026 02:19:14 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/wilson-golf-unveils-new-staff-model-irons/

Wilson Golf has unveiled its 2026 Staff Model iron family, introducing a three iron lineup that blends classic design with modern innovation.

The range features the iconic Staff Model Blade, the refined Staff Model CB and the all new Staff Model XB, expanding the appeal of the Staff Model franchise to a wider group of golfers.

Engineered by Wilson’s research and development team, the new irons underline the brand’s long standing commitment to craftsmanship and performance.

A new brushed satin finish gives the clubs a contemporary look while maintaining the traditional shaping that has defined Wilson irons for generations.

Consistent design DNA runs throughout the range, with each model offering sharp precision, premium feel and subtle differences tailored to specific player needs.

All three irons have been designed to work seamlessly together, making combo sets a key focus for the brand as golfers increasingly look to blend different head styles within one set.

WHAT WILSON SAY

Ben Hanser, CAD Engineer at Wilson Golf, said the range represents a significant step forward for the brand.

He explained that Wilson has drawn heavily on its iron heritage while applying modern design techniques to create what he believes is the strongest iron family the company has ever produced.

Hanser added that the introduction of the Staff Model XB allows more golfers to fit into the range, while still maintaining a consistent look and feel across all three models.

Wilson Staff Model Family Lineup
The range has a consistent look

Crafted from forged 8620 carbon steel, one of the softest materials used in iron construction, the new Staff Model irons are designed to deliver excellent workability and immediate feedback at impact.

A precision milled face and scoreline pattern promotes longer ball to face contact for more consistent spin and improved stopping power.

Wilson’s Fluid Feel Technology redistributes mass towards the centre of the face, while the centre of gravity has been carefully positioned away from the heel to enhance overall performance.

Staff Model XB

The Staff Model XB is an all new Players Performance iron featuring a forged hollow body construction designed to increase face flexion for higher ball speeds.

The design also delivers increased moment of inertia and precise centre of gravity placement, while maintaining a compact, tour inspired look thanks to minimal offset and a thin topline.

Urethane fills the hollow body to dampen vibrations and create a crisp, clean sound at impact. A hidden vent port beneath the shield medallion ensures a seamless appearance across the back and toe of the club.

Advanced computer based simulations and topology optimisation played a central role in the development of the XB.

Wilson engineers analysed the body and face structure to optimise feel, sound and performance, creating unique internal rib configurations for each loft.

Wilson XB

Hanser said topology optimisation allowed the team to identify exactly where internal mass should be placed to maximise performance, while sound and feel were a major priority in the hollow body design.

The optimised construction combines engineered rib supports, a parabolic mass pad and precisely located tungsten weighting to deliver an ideal centre of gravity and high moment of inertia in a slim profile.

The face design has also been optimised to maximise performance across the entire hitting area, with simulations focusing on consistent ball speed, spin and launch from a range of strike locations.

This helps reduce dispersion and maintain performance on both centre strikes and mishits.

Staff Model Blade

Designed for elite ball strikers, the Staff Model Blade remains the flagship iron in the Wilson lineup and continues to be trusted by Tour professionals worldwide.

For 2026, the blade features refined shaping to deliver exceptional control.

A variable hosel length improves mass distribution and ensures visual consistency with the CB and XB models.

The blade length has been shortened and offset reduced to create a more compact profile and a modern tour inspired appearance.

Staff Model CB

The Staff Model CB offers a modern cavity back design that balances forgiveness and feel. Shaped to closely mirror the Staff Model Blade, the CB has benefited from extensive feedback from Tour professionals.

Compared to the previous generation, the head has been shortened and its edges softened to better align with the Blade’s premium profile.

Hosel length now matches the Blade for improved visual consistency, while an enhanced hosel to face transition delivers a cleaner look.

Reduced offset and a straighter, narrower sole improve turf interaction and control through impact.

Wilson CB Cavity

The 5 best irons for high handicappers https://ultragolfing.com/the-5-best-irons-for-high-handicappers/ https://ultragolfing.com/the-5-best-irons-for-high-handicappers/#respond Mon, 30 Mar 2026 13:23:21 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/the-5-best-irons-for-high-handicappers/

Golf is about precision, patience and incremental improvement. But for high handicappers, it can often feel like a test of endurance rather than enjoyment, especially when approach shots fail to find the green or consistency proves elusive. One of the most effective ways to improve both your performance and your confidence is by choosing the right set of irons.

Modern golf equipment is designed with a wide range of players in mind, and high handicappers in particular can benefit enormously from irons that prioritise forgiveness, distance and ease of use. The right irons won’t magically fix your swing, but they will make mis-hits more playable and good shots more rewarding.

To help you find the right clubs for your game, here we’ll break down what irons are, how to choose the optimal ones for you, and highlight five of the best irons for high handicappers currently available.

What are irons, and what are they used for?

Irons are versatile clubs with solid, angled heads usually made from iron or steel. They’re used to make approach shots from the fairway or rough towards the green, usually from 120 to 160 yards or more.

Iron clubs are numbered from 3 to 9 (3-iron, 4-iron, 5-iron, etc.), with lower-numbered clubs designed for lower-lofted shots at longer distances, while higher-numbered clubs offer more loft and control. Each iron is engineered to produce a specific trajectory and distance, allowing you to select the appropriate one for the approach shot you need to play – learning which iron to take out of your bag is central to lowering your handicap.

For high handicappers, irons are often the most frequently used clubs during a round. Choosing the right clubs for your game – ones that fit you and complement your skill level – can make a big impact on your handicap.

How to choose the right irons for you

Finding the right irons for you can be a daunting prospect given the variety of options available. However, high handicappers should focus on a few key characteristics that can make a meaningful difference, like:

1. Forgiveness

Forgiveness refers to how well a club performs on off-centre strikes. Game improvement irons, designed specifically for higher handicap players, feature larger clubheads, perimeter weighting, and wider soles. These features help maintain distance and accuracy even when contact isn’t perfect.

2. Launch and loft

High handicappers can struggle to consistently get the ball airborne. Irons with a lower centre of gravity and stronger lofts can help promote higher launch and longer carry distances, which can be particularly beneficial for players with slower swing speeds.

3. Shaft type

Most irons’ shafts are made of either steel or graphite. Graphite shafts are lighter and can help increase swing speed, making them a popular choice for beginners or those with slower tempos. Steel shafts, on the other hand, offer more control and durability, but are usually suited to more experienced players.

4. Set composition

Many modern iron sets replace long irons (like the 3 or 4-irons) with hybrids, which are easier to hit. High handicappers should consider hybrid-iron sets, as they provide more consistency and confidence.

5. Custom fitting

Even at a beginner level, a basic custom fitting can significantly improve your results. Factors such as shaft length, lie angle and grip size all influence how well you strike the ball. Investing time in a fitting session can ensure your irons are tailored to your swing, even if you’re just getting into the game.

The five best irons for high handicappers

iron next to a ball on the golf course

Below are five of our picks for standout iron sets that offer the kind of performance and forgiveness that high handicap players will benefit from:

1. Callaway Big Bertha B21 Irons

The Big Bertha B21 irons are specifically engineered for golfers who struggle with consistency and slicing. The irons feature a wide sole and a low centre of gravity, making it easier to launch the ball high and straight.

The inclusion of perimeter weighting increases forgiveness across the face, while the club’s design promotes a draw bias, helping to counteract slicing. For high handicappers seeking maximum assistance, this set is among the most user-friendly options on the market.

2. TaylorMade SIM2 Max Irons

Combining the latest in technology with a sleek, no-nonsense design, the SIM2 Max irons offer both performance and a refined visual appeal. These irons are well known for their explosive distance, thanks to a flexible face that maximises ball speed, but are most renowned for being beginner-friendly and potentially the most forgiving TaylorMade clubs.

The SIM2 Max irons feature an oversized club head and a wider sole, plus TaylorMade’s “Cap Back” design, which enhances stability and forgiveness without sacrificing feel. High handicappers will appreciate the irons’ high launch and consistent performance, even on less-than-perfect strikes.

3. Ping G425 Irons

Ping has long been synonymous with forgiveness, and the G425 irons really drive that home. The clubs feature a shorter blade length and a Variable Face Thickness (VFT) design, resulting in a very stable, forgiving clubhead that delivers fast ball speeds.

The G425 irons also provide excellent sound and feel. Their ability to deliver consistent distance and accuracy makes them a strong choice for players looking to reduce variability in their game and improve their approach shots.

4. Cobra Air-X Irons

Designed with lightweight performance in mind, the Cobra Air-X irons are ideal for players with slower swing speeds. The lighter clubhead and shaft combination helps generate more speed, which translates into greater distance, whilst making the irons easier to handle and swing than traditional irons.

Cobra Air-X irons also feature offset hosels, which help square the clubface at impact, reducing slices and promoting straighter shots. If you struggle to generate power, the Air-X set offers a significant boost in confidence.

5. Wilson Launch Pad Irons

The Wilson Launch Pad irons are among the most forgiving irons available today. Their hollow-body construction and ultra-wide soles effectively float above the turf, making it far easier to get the ball airborne.

These irons are particularly well-suited for players who have difficulty with traditional long irons. The design virtually eliminates fat shots and provides a smooth interaction with the turf. For high handicappers seeking simplicity and reliability, the Launch Pad irons are an excellent choice.

Finding the right irons for your game

When it comes to improving your handicap, having the right clubs in your bag can make a big impact. A set of irons designed for forgiveness, higher launch, and ease of use can help you build consistency and confidence, reduce frustration, and enjoy the game more.

When choosing irons, focus on features that support your current ability rather than your aspirational performance. Forgiveness, lightweight design, and proper fitting should be your top priorities. The five iron sets highlighted in this guide represent some of the best options available, each offering unique advantages tailored to high handicappers. But ultimately, the best iron set for you is one that feels comfortable, inspires confidence, and helps you achieve more consistent results.

G740 Irons Engineered for More Distance, Forgiveness and Consistency https://ultragolfing.com/g740-irons-engineered-for-more-distance-forgiveness-and-consistency/ https://ultragolfing.com/g740-irons-engineered-for-more-distance-forgiveness-and-consistency/#respond Thu, 26 Mar 2026 13:37:42 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/g740-irons-engineered-for-more-distance-forgiveness-and-consistency/

PHOENIX: Targeting golfers who best fit into a super-game-improvement iron, PING introduced the G740 iron today, a distance-delivering, high-launching design engineered with score-lowering forgiveness and consistency.

The custom-built G740 irons are available for custom fittings and pre-order at authorized PING golf shops around the world beginning today.

“The G740 iron represents our return to the super-game-improvement-iron category in a more deliberate way,” said John K. Solheim, PING CEO & President. “The visibly wider sole and larger clubhead result in the most forgiving iron in our current lineup. At the same time, it’s our longest iron. The target golfer for the G740 iron needs more consistency in their game, and the larger face helps ensure better results from inconsistent strikes, leading to faster speed and more forgiveness. Golfers who fit into the G740 iron will be very pleased with its performance and enjoy the benefits of hitting more greens.”

More Speed. More Distance.

Maximizing ball speed for golfers who need more consistent contact was one of the primary objectives in the design of the G740 iron, helping produce shots that launch higher, fly farther and hold the green.

The G740 iron’s wider, dual-camber sole positions the CG low and back for elevated ball speed and higher launch for more distance with stopping power. An advanced heat-treating process in the iron unlocks the exceptional strength properties of 17-4 stainless steel and allows our engineers to thin the larger face for increased flexing. The larger face also expands the hitting surface, preserving ball speed and ensuring more accuracy on mishits. The PurFlex cavity badge, with three flex zones, helps control face bending while enhancing feel and sound.

“The fast ball speed really differentiates the G740 iron in the category and is one of the keys to its success,” Solheim said. “It launches high and gives golfers the distance and confidence they need to hit shorter irons into the green with a higher max height, so their shots stop closer to the hole. The G740 iron also provides a pleasing feel and sound.”

Forgiveness. Consistency.

The larger, perimeter-weighted head and wider sole ensure a highly forgiving design. Golfers will also notice ample offset in the cavity-back design, an important contributor to getting the ball airborne more easily and consistently. The performance-enhancing Hydropearl chrome 2.0 finish helps ensure reliable launch results from varying conditions.

“Our history of pioneering forgiveness through perimeter weighting continues to inspire us every day,” Solheim said. “Our engineers apply modern design techniques to the proven theories of my grandfather, Karsten Solheim. The G740 iron is another example of that, bringing golfers the forgiveness and consistency they need to improve their performance and lower their scores.”

Custom-Engineered Lofts

The standard lofts in the G740 are custom engineered to ensure set configurations that maximize performance throughout the set with the goal of increasing distance and optimizing gaps to best fit the golfer. The four wedges in the set feature machined faces and grooves for added control. The option of power (stronger) and retro (weaker) spec lofts allows fitters to further optimize performance.

“The more data we analyze through our Arccos partnership, the stronger the case becomes that properly gapped sets play a big part in a golfer’s performance,” said Solheim. “It’s especially important for many of the golfers who fit the G740 iron profile as they likely need to transition into hybrids and fairway woods somewhere around the five or six iron. I encourage all golfers to look closer at their set make ups to ensure they are playing the best combination of clubs.”

i540 Irons Deliver Speed, Precision and Stopping Power https://ultragolfing.com/i540-irons-deliver-speed-precision-and-stopping-power/ https://ultragolfing.com/i540-irons-deliver-speed-precision-and-stopping-power/#respond Sat, 21 Mar 2026 22:41:56 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/i540-irons-deliver-speed-precision-and-stopping-power/

PHOENIX: Designed for golfers in need of more speed from a players-style design that also ensures a pleasing impact experience, PING introduced the i540 today, a premium iron model custom engineered for score-lowering performance.

The i540 irons are available for custom fittings and pre-order at authorized PING golf shops around the world beginning today.

“The popularity of the Players Distance iron category continues to grow as more and more golfers are in search of faster speeds from an iron with a blade-style look,” said John K. Solheim, PING CEO & President. “There’s a lot of technology in the i540 iron. Inside the head, tungsten sole weighting lowers the center of gravity and combines with the forged maraging-steel face to produce faster ball speeds. We’ve also applied inR-Air technology to improve the feel and sound. It’s an air pocket behind the face that attenuates frequencies and leads to a better impact experience. On the outside, the covered cavity design creates a clean, high-tech appearance.

“It’s a great fit for the golfer whose top priority is more distance. The i540 iron also has a level of forgiveness not typically found in distance irons. It looks great, feels great and more importantly, will lead to lower scores and more enjoyment on the course.”

Players Distance With Stopping Power

Distance gains come from multiple sources in the i540 iron, including tungsten sole weighting in the 4-7 irons that lowers the center of gravity for more ball speed. The forged, highly flexible maraging-steel C300 face is precisely welded to a 17-4 stainless-steel body, creating metal-wood-like bending to ensure faster ball speeds with higher max height for more stopping power.

The CG-optimized lofts in the i540 iron help ensure more distance and higher peak height for green-holding results. Three loft configurations (Standard, Power and Retro) are available to optimize a golfer’s launch conditions during the custom-fitting process.

“The i540 brings more control to a distance iron,” said Solheim. “It appeals to the golfer whose primary goal is more distance who still prefers the size and look of a players iron. In some cases, this player is looking to regain ball speed that they may have lost over time. Blade enthusiasts will appreciate the thin topline, narrow sole and shallow face height that define the iron’s clean, premium look. The i540 iron combines speed and precision into a very attractive design.”

What’s Inside: inR-Air Technology

To help improve the feel and sound, the i540 irons are engineered with inR-Air technology, an advancement refined by PING’s innovation team that was first introduced in the iDi driving iron last year. The patent-pending technology relies on an air pocket strategically placed inside the club behind the face to attenuate any undesirable frequencies that occur at impact. The integrated i-Beam structure inside the 17-4 stainless-steel body of the i540 iron also adds support and contributes to the improved sound and feel.

“This type of iron construction always presents sound and feel challenges,” said Solheim. “The pocket of air inside the i540 iron is a great solution for softening the frequencies and improving the impact experience. It’s proven to be very successful in the iDi driving iron, and we’re excited to bring this technology to golfers in a full set of irons.”

Designed for Zero Distractions: Srixon Unveils ZXi Black Chrome Irons https://ultragolfing.com/designed-for-zero-distractions-srixon-unveils-zxi-black-chrome-irons/ https://ultragolfing.com/designed-for-zero-distractions-srixon-unveils-zxi-black-chrome-irons/#respond Wed, 18 Mar 2026 21:11:25 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/designed-for-zero-distractions-srixon-unveils-zxi-black-chrome-irons/

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Adding to their acclaimed ZXi line, SRIXON® announces the release of the Limited-Edition ZXi Black Chrome Irons, available in the ZXi7 and ZXi5 models. Designed for golfers who seek both performance and style, the ZXi Black Chrome Irons combine tour-proven precision with a sleek finish that enhances durability and reduces glare at address. The result is a bold, blacked-out aesthetic, all-while delivering the forged feel and control golfers expect from Srixon Irons.

“The modern golfer is looking for more than just performance, they want their equipment to reflect their style and individuality too,” said Casey Shultz, Senior Product Manager at Srixon. “With the Black Chrome Irons, we’re delivering on both fronts. Players get the precision and feel trusted on tour, along with a finish that stands out in the bag.”

Building on the excitement around the ZXi Black Chrome Irons, Srixon is also launching a limited-edition Blackout Collection of soft goods, with several Tour Staff players expected to wear and use pieces from the collection at The Genesis Invitational, bringing a bold new look to one of the PGA TOUR’s signature events. The lineup includes all-black golf bags, headcovers, and blackout headwear.

Tour-Proven Performance

Accumulating eight wins on the PGA TOUR in 2025 alone, the ZXi Iron line has earned its reputation on the professional stages and is trusted in the bags of some of the world’s best players. Now, with the Black Chrome finish, golfers can experience that same precision performance with a fresh edge.

At the heart of Srixon’s ZXi Black Chrome Irons is the brand’s advanced forging process called i-FORGED. Engineered to deliver unparalleled consistency, responsiveness, and control, this formula was developed to strengthen and enhance each Iron, while maintaining a softer feel for superior performance.

For the low-handicap player, the ZXi7 Players Irons feature compact shaping with a thinner topline, narrow sole, shorter blade length, and minimal offset. The result is maximum workability paired with a razor-sharp look at address. The ZXi5 Iron, Srixon’s most potent blend of power and playability, gives golfers the perfect mix of distance, forgiveness, and control, all in an ultra-clean profile.

PING introduce i240 irons for all golfers https://ultragolfing.com/ping-introduce-i240-irons-for-all-golfers/ https://ultragolfing.com/ping-introduce-i240-irons-for-all-golfers/#respond Wed, 18 Mar 2026 20:33:27 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/ping-introduce-i240-irons-for-all-golfers/

Continuing its focus on engineering irons to fit the needs of all skill levels, PING has launched the i240 irons.

A players-style design that combines shot-making precision with score-saving forgiveness. The i240 iron is now available for custom fittings at authorised PING retailers around the world.

“The new i240 irons are engineered to appeal to a wide range of skill levels,” said John K. Solheim, PING CEO & President.

“They provide precision and control with a great feel, so they technically fit into the ‘players iron’ category.

But they also offer the MOI and higher launch of a game-improvement iron. We’ve designed it with more of a true cavity-back look to inform golfers of its forgiveness properties.

They are a great solution for avid players who like the look, feel and performance of a blade-style iron but can also benefit from added forgiveness when they aren’t as precise with their ball striking.

They pack a lot of performance into one model.”

i240 TRUE CAVITY-BACK DESIGN

A more traditional cavity design signifies the perimeter-weighting benefits of the iron while maintaining a clean, players-style look.

The cavity badge and activated elastomer technology allow PING engineers to save significant weight, which is re-allocated within the clubhead to position the center of gravity (CG) lower for more distance, increased control and higher launch.

The weight savings also increase the MOI for more forgiveness, most notably in the long and mid irons.

“The i240 iron sits in the middle of our iron offerings, so it requires us to balance a variety of performance attributes that appeal to a wider range of golfers,” Solheim said. “We’re seeing tighter dispersion and higher launch throughout the set that we know all players can appreciate.

We’re also providing more distance in a way that is predictable and repeatable to ensure it meets the precise shot-making needs of the best players in the world.”

PLEASING IMPACT EXPERIENCE

The multi-material badge, which is 8.5 grams lighter than the i230 badge, is comprised of a chrome-plated ABS with carbon fibre inlay.

The activated elastomer insert supports the face, helping to provide more efficient energy transfer across the entire face and a softer feel and pleasing sound.

TOUR INSPIRED

Balancing the needs of the top players in the world while expanding the performance features to attract a wider audience of golfers required a careful approach to the overall design.

The face technology has been updated with a return to fewer and wider grooves, a request from tour pros in search of more spin from the fairway.

The engineers also maintained the player-preferred size and shape for distance and trajectory control.

The i240’s sole design is similar to previous designs, with a rounded lead edge and ample bounce to promote smooth turf interaction for clean and solid strikes.

“Meeting the needs of our tour pros and better players is important to the success of the i240 irons,” Solheim said. “We continually seek the players’ feedback.

The groove technology is a perfect example of us learning from them. They’ve reacted favorably to the new design, including the added forgiveness and higher launch, and we’re seeing more and more go into bags every week.

Their validation of this design goes a long way in giving golfers the confidence that they can also benefit from the i240 irons and shoot lower scores.”

Mizuno Expands Signature Series with the Pro S-1 Muscle Back Irons https://ultragolfing.com/mizuno-expands-signature-series-with-the-pro-s-1-muscle-back-irons/ https://ultragolfing.com/mizuno-expands-signature-series-with-the-pro-s-1-muscle-back-irons/#respond Tue, 17 Mar 2026 08:20:03 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/mizuno-expands-signature-series-with-the-pro-s-1-muscle-back-irons/

Mizuno, renowned for its relentless pursuit of forging perfection, have  unveiled the Mizuno Pro S-1 irons—an exciting new addition to its celebrated Signature Series.

Crafted for the discerning player, the S-1 is a bold step forward in Mizuno’s mission to deliver precision engineering, peerless feel, and continuously refined performance.

TRADITION

The Mizuno Signature Series reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to producing meticulously designed clubs that balance tradition with the needs of the modern golfer.

The Mizuno Pro S-1 follows the introduction of the hugely popular Mizuno Pro S-3 irons in January, offering players another standout option within the family.

The Mizuno Pro S-1 irons are pure muscle backs, designed for players who demand ultimate precision and workability.

At the core of the Mizuno Pro S-1 is Mizuno’s Grain Flow Forged HD process, carefully executed in Hiroshima, Japan.

Forged from a single billet of 1025E Pure Select Mild Carbon Steel, the S-1 delivers the unmistakably soft and responsive feel through impact that Mizuno is globally known for.

The inclusion of a copper underlay further optimises this experience, subtly refining vibration patterns to produce the purest, most satisfying feedback.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Developed and tested with input from tour professionals, the S-1 incorporates a Channel Back Design that redistributes mass for greater vertical stability and a more consistent centre of gravity.

This design works seamlessly with Mizuno’s Harmonic Impact Technology, which fine-tunes the feel by adjusting the club’s vibration frequencies to deliver even more responsive feedback.

Building on Mizuno’s continuous drive for improvement, the S-1 introduces a re-engineered sole that has been precisely shaped to optimise turf interaction.

WHAT’S NEW

Compared to its predecessor, the Mizuno Pro 241, the S-1 sole features a flatter camber, a sharper leading edge, and an additional degree of bounce.

The result is a club that offers greater forgiveness for shallower attack angles while reducing the chance of digging—giving players the confidence to commit to every shot.

Visually, the S-1 has been crafted to appeal to the modern, competitive golfer. It features a compact, tour-preferred profile with a square toe design, a thin topline, and straight edges that convey discipline and purpose.

The Soft White Satin finish not only complements its sophisticated appearance but also serves to reduce glare at address.

ELITE
