2THUMB Putting Grip Ambassador, Matt Wallace, finishes T2 at the Valero Texas Open

Novi, MI – 2THUMB putting grip ambassador, Matt Wallace fired a final round 68 to take the lead at 16-under-par on Sunday at the Valero Texas Open. Wallace then had to wait several hours in the clubhouse, while watching a dozen other contenders on the leaderboard, grind out the finishing holes. Conditions were wet, cold and windy at TPC San Antonio due to storms that blew through the area on Saturday causing the third round to be suspended and completed early Sunday morning.

Despite a marathon day, it was U.S. Open Champion, J.J. Spaun, who survived the weather delays and secured the win and his second Texas Open title (2022 & 2026). Spaun hit two remarkable tee shots down the stretch, setting up a birdie on the par-3 16^th hole, followed by an eagle on the drivable par-4, 304-yard 17^th hole, resulting in a 5-under 67 and the one-shot victory. Wallace finished T2 along with Michael Kim and Robert MacIntyre.

Wallace, from Watford, England, turned pro in 2012 and has six titles to his name across the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR. For Wallace, a victory would have secured him a spot in the 2026 Masters this week.

“I’ve played better the last few weeks than the results have shown. Mentally, I was very good this week,” said Wallace after his final round. “Patience is the worst word in golf, but you need a lot of it. I had patience this week and it paid dividends.”

Wallace uses 2THUMB’s Snug Tour 33 putting grip. He interlocks his fingers, so his palms are facing opposing each other, and as he grips the putter, he places his thumbs alongside one another. Known as the prayer grip, it allows Wallace’s shoulders to hang level, which promotes a pendulum putting motion. SuperStroke Zenergy TLT grip targets zero-torque putters

New off-axis Zenergy TLT grip is built to match forward-leaning zero-torque and lie-angle-balanced putters.

Zero-torque and lie-angle-balanced putters aren’t a fringe experiment anymore. They’ve moved from tour vans and internet message boards into pro shops and weekend groups, and now the grip category is responding.

SuperStroke has introduced the Zenergy TLT grip, an off-axis design created specifically for golfers using zero-torque putters that are built with forward shaft lean. If you’ve spent any time rolling putts with models from brands leaning into this design philosophy, you already know the setup can feel different. The shaft isn’t neutral. It’s preset forward. The face is engineered to resist rotation. The grip, ideally, shouldn’t fight that geometry.

That’s where the TLT comes in. The defining feature of the Zenergy TLT is its off-axis core. Instead of the shaft running straight through the center of the grip, it’s angled inside. How a simple grip tweak fixed this LPGA winner’s worst miss

My season prep with Maja Stark started a little later this year. And while we made some solid gains and good adjustments, there was still one shot that bothered her with the scoring irons: a kind of high, floaty shot that leaked a bit to the right. It lacked authority, and made setting up birdies consistently a challenge.

When I watched her warm up in Orlando during the week of the LPGA Tournament of Champions, something caught my eye. She kept fiddling with her left-hand grip, trying to get it comfortable on the club. Obviously, that affects everything — the takeaway started to feel wonky and impact wasn’t what she wanted on a consistent basis. When those pieces aren’t right, her confidence starts to dip.

Then the light bulb came on.

Between shots, Maja would chat and casually make some half-swings with her left hand only on the club. And every time she did, the grip looked perfect. So I kept watching, and it kept happening. (I might’ve even stretched out our conversations a bit to catch her in those moments when the grip went on just right.)

After a while, Maja asked if I had ever heard of the interlocking grip. I told her some guy named Jack Nicklaus did pretty well with it.

She smiled and said, “I’m going to try a couple shots with that.”

From the very first swing, her left-hand grip was fixed. I watched her left hand settle onto the club properly — turned slightly to the right of center, with the butt end of the club under the heel pad of her left hand, not off to the side of it. As she started hitting shots, I knew we’d solved that pesky floaty right miss.

Of course, there was a quick conversation about whether this was really the right time in the season to make a grip change, but Maja said yes. And once I saw her left hand going on the club properly and consistently, without all the angst and adjustments, I became a believer.

Funny enough, a grip change is usually reserved as a last resort for pros. But in this case, it was exactly what the doctor ordered. It allowed Maja to get the left hand on the club properly with little to no fuss. Sometimes the simplest change makes the biggest difference.
