AI-driven face technology delivers speed and consistency

At the heart of the DYNAPWR Forged iron is Wilson’s AI-generated Variable Face Technology, paired with the brand’s PKR-CUP face design. Crafted from Forged 8620 Carbon Steel, the face wraps onto the sole to create a thinner, more responsive hinge area, particularly effective on low-face strikes.

According to Wilson, this construction boosts ball speed and launch while also improving consistency across the hitting area.

By moving the weld line away from the strike zone, engineers were able to fine-tune face performance, reduce manufacturing variation and enhance forgiveness throughout the set.

Refined feel and acoustics through forged construction

Wilson has removed the power holes seen in the previous generation and instead optimised face thickness using AI simulation to improve flex and energy transfer at impact.

The result is increased distance without compromising the control and precision demanded by better players.

The cavity back design is filled with TE-031 Urethane in irons 3 through 9, helping to dampen vibrations and produce a smoother, more refined sound and feel.

This internal damping is designed to deliver a softer response while maintaining ball speed and stability.

Visually, the DYNAPWR Forged iron features a compact, player-inspired profile with a polished mirror finish at address.

That’s why for the first time ever, MG5 wedges are fully forged from soft carbon steel. Not only does the forging process allow golfers to experience soft feel around the green where they need it most, it ensures consistency in the wedge from top to bottom.

The process starts with a billet of soft carbon steel that’s heated and bent into an L-shape. The piece then goes through a rough forging process where excess material is trimmed away, and the wedge begins to take shape.

The Deep Dive: There’s always been a balancing act at the heart of the players-distance iron category. Golfers want the speed and launch assistance that modern engineering can provide, but they don’t want to see or hear anything that reminds them they’re swinging something that might be confused with a game-improvement iron. With the 2026 DYNAPWR Forged, Wilson’s engineers leaned hard into that reality to refine the looks while retaining the performance.

Compared to the 2025 Dynapower Forged, the most significant change is how ball speed and forgiveness are created. The previous model relied on polymer-filled Power Holes in the sole of the long and mid irons to help the face flex, especially on thin strikes. That approach worked, but it also introduced visible technology that some better players were never fully comfortable with.

For 2026, those slots are gone and in their place is Wilson’s PKR-CUP face design, which wraps the forged face material into the sole. By moving the weld line away from the primary impact area, Wilson also gave its engineers more control over face behavior and manufacturing consistency. Players will benefit from a hinge-like flex zone low on the face without cutting slots into the sole.

The face itself continues to be shaped using AI-driven simulations, but the emphasis has shifted. Rather than pairing variable face thickness with external features (such as Power Holes), Wilson used artificial intelligence to fine-tune internal thickness patterns, allowing the face to flex efficiently across a broader area while maintaining predictable launch windows. Yes, players can expect more speed, but it will show up more consistently, and that’s what more accomplished players want.

Feel and sound were also higher priorities this time around. The 2026 DYNAPWR Forged irons incorporate TE-031 urethane in the cavity of 3-iron through 9-iron to manage vibration at impact. Combined with the forged 8620 carbon steel construction, the urethane helps soften acoustics and create a more traditional sensation at impact, particularly for players sensitive to sound feedback.

Visually, the iron has been nudged further toward the better-player end of the spectrum. The profile remains forgiving enough to inspire confidence, but the absence of sole slots and the more refined cavity geometry give it a cleaner, more premium look at address. It is still very much a player ‘s-distance iron, but one that now signals that intent more discreetly.

Within Wilson’s iron lineup, the DYNAPWR Forged sits between the company’s most traditional and most forgiving offerings. The Staff Model MB and Staff Model CB remain the choice for elite ball strikers who prioritize shot control and precision, while the new Staff Model XB caters to golfers who want distance in a slightly larger, more forgiving chassis. The DYNAPWR Forged offers a forged feel and compact shaping, with modern ball-speed assistance, for the same type of player.

Taken together, the 2026 changes are less about reinventing the iron and more about refinement. Dan Owen, our Equipment Editor, knows the game changes as we get older. In this review, he checks out the Mizuno JPX 925 Forged irons—a compact, forgiving set built for players who still want feel and performance without going full game-improvement.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not getting any younger. The clubs I used when I was younger just don’t work for me anymore.

And as a parent who doesn’t get to play as often as I’d like, I can’t rely on a small, forged blade. I need something with a bit of help, a little more forgiveness, a little more distance.

hat’s where the new Mizuno JPX 925 Forged irons come in. They prove that you don’t have to use oversized game- improvement irons to get performance and playability in a club that looks good at address.

This is one of the most compact players’ distance irons on the market and being forged and they feel incredible.

Mizuno has completely changed the way they’ve constructed this latest JPX 925 Forged irons. The face and neck are a single piece forged from Chromoly 4120, with a second piece of metal welded onto the back.

This has allowed Mizuno to mill the face with a Contour Ellipse face. Thinner faced than any previous forged iron from Mizuno, the innovative design has allowed the engineers to create an iron that is fast across the face.

Mizuno claims that by rethinking the construction, rather than simply refining like they have with previous models, they’ve effectively skipped eight generations or 16 years of club improvement.

While I can’t say the difference is quite that dramatic, I can tell you that these irons feel excellent. Ball speeds are quick, and despite the compact head, there’s plenty of help on off-centre strikes.

One of my favourite features is the triple grind sole. It allows the club to play thinner through the turf while also offering a bit of protection if you get steep into the ball, and getting out of the turf quicker.

It’s a small detail, but one that will help better players transition into a slightly bigger clubhead.

In the 8-iron, 9-iron, and wedges, Mizuno has taken things even further by using a softer 1025E metal in a one-piece construction. The result? An even softer feel for approaches into the green, where forgiveness is less important.

Another standout feature is Mizuno’s extensive customisation options. They offer one of the largest selections of no-upcharge shafts, along with a huge range of grips, allowing you to fine-tune these irons to your exact preferences.

With so much great equipment released recently, it’s hard to pick favourites. But there’s a very real chance these irons will stay in the bag this year.
