Wilson Golf has officially unveiled the new DYNAPWR Forged iron, a players-distance model created using advanced AI technology and aimed at golfers seeking a blend of distance, control and premium forged feel.

Part of the revitalised DYNAPWR franchise, the new iron is designed to appeal to aspirational and competitive players who want modern ball speed and forgiveness without sacrificing the compact looks and feedback traditionally associated with forged irons.

AI-driven face technology delivers speed and consistency

At the heart of the DYNAPWR Forged iron is Wilson’s AI-generated Variable Face Technology, paired with the brand’s PKR-CUP face design. Crafted from Forged 8620 Carbon Steel, the face wraps onto the sole to create a thinner, more responsive hinge area, particularly effective on low-face strikes.

According to Wilson, this construction boosts ball speed and launch while also improving consistency across the hitting area.

By moving the weld line away from the strike zone, engineers were able to fine-tune face performance, reduce manufacturing variation and enhance forgiveness throughout the set.

That’s why for the first time ever, MG5 wedges are fully forged from soft carbon steel. Not only does the forging process allow golfers to experience soft feel around the green where they need it most, it ensures consistency in the wedge from top to bottom.

The process starts with a billet of soft carbon steel that’s heated and bent into an L-shape. The piece then goes through a rough forging process where excess material is trimmed away, and the wedge begins to take shape.

SAW-MILLED GROOVES

MG5 wedges are the first in the MG family to employ aggressive saw-milled grooves. The saw-milling process allows TaylorMade’s designers to come even closer to the legal limits of groove geometry.

Reengineered with ultra-tight tolerances, steeper walls and sharper radii, these grooves help MG5 produce more spin than previous MG generations.

The Deep Dive: There’s always been a balancing act at the heart of the players-distance iron category. Golfers want the speed and launch assistance that modern engineering can provide, but they don’t want to see or hear anything that reminds them they’re swinging something that might be confused with a game-improvement iron. With the 2026 DYNAPWR Forged, Wilson’s engineers leaned hard into that reality to refine the looks while retaining the performance.

Compared to the 2025 Dynapower Forged, the most significant change is how ball speed and forgiveness are created. The previous model relied on polymer-filled Power Holes in the sole of the long and mid irons to help the face flex, especially on thin strikes. That approach worked, but it also introduced visible technology that some better players were never fully comfortable with.

For 2026, those slots are gone and in their place is Wilson’s PKR-CUP face design, which wraps the forged face material into the sole. By moving the weld line away from the primary impact area, Wilson also gave its engineers more control over face behavior and manufacturing consistency. Players will benefit from a hinge-like flex zone low on the face without cutting slots into the sole.

The face itself continues to be shaped using AI-driven simulations, but the emphasis has shifted. Rather than pairing variable face thickness with external features (such as Power Holes), Wilson used artificial intelligence to fine-tune internal thickness patterns, allowing the face to flex efficiently across a broader area while maintaining predictable launch windows. Yes, players can expect more speed, but it will show up more consistently, and that’s what more accomplished players want.

Feel and sound were also higher priorities this time around. The 2026 DYNAPWR Forged irons incorporate TE-031 urethane in the cavity of 3-iron through 9-iron to manage vibration at impact. Combined with the forged 8620 carbon steel construction, the urethane helps soften acoustics and create a more traditional sensation at impact, particularly for players sensitive to sound feedback.

Visually, the iron has been nudged further toward the better-player end of the spectrum. The profile remains forgiving enough to inspire confidence, but the absence of sole slots and the more refined cavity geometry give it a cleaner, more premium look at address. It is still very much a player ‘s-distance iron, but one that now signals that intent more discreetly.

Within Wilson’s iron lineup, the DYNAPWR Forged sits between the company’s most traditional and most forgiving offerings. The Staff Model MB and Staff Model CB remain the choice for elite ball strikers who prioritize shot control and precision, while the new Staff Model XB caters to golfers who want distance in a slightly larger, more forgiving chassis. The DYNAPWR Forged offers a forged feel and compact shaping, with modern ball-speed assistance, for the same type of player.

Taken together, the 2026 changes are less about reinventing the iron and more about refinement. Wilson kept the core idea of the DYNAPWR Forged intact, but delivered its performance in a quieter, more sophisticated way that better aligns with the expectations of accomplished players who want distance help without visual compromise.

TRIED & TESTED: MIZUNO JPX 925 FORGED IRONS

Dan Owen, our Equipment Editor, knows the game changes as we get older. In this review, he checks out the Mizuno JPX 925 Forged irons—a compact, forgiving set built for players who still want feel and performance without going full game-improvement.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not getting any younger. The clubs I used when I was younger just don’t work for me anymore.

And as a parent who doesn’t get to play as often as I’d like, I can’t rely on a small, forged blade. I need something with a bit of help, a little more forgiveness, a little more distance.

hat’s where the new Mizuno JPX 925 Forged irons come in. They prove that you don’t have to use oversized game- improvement irons to get performance and playability in a club that looks good at address.

This is one of the most compact players’ distance irons on the market and being forged and they feel incredible.

Mizuno has completely changed the way they’ve constructed this latest JPX 925 Forged irons. The face and neck are a single piece forged from Chromoly 4120, with a second piece of metal welded onto the back.

This has allowed Mizuno to mill the face with a Contour Ellipse face. Thinner faced than any previous forged iron from Mizuno, the innovative design has allowed the engineers to create an iron that is fast across the face.

Mizuno claims that by rethinking the construction, rather than simply refining like they have with previous models, they’ve effectively skipped eight generations or 16 years of club improvement.

While I can’t say the difference is quite that dramatic, I can tell you that these irons feel excellent. Ball speeds are quick, and despite the compact head, there’s plenty of help on off-centre strikes.

One of my favourite features is the triple grind sole. It allows the club to play thinner through the turf while also offering a bit of protection if you get steep into the ball, and getting out of the turf quicker.

It’s a small detail, but one that will help better players transition into a slightly bigger clubhead.

In the 8-iron, 9-iron, and wedges, Mizuno has taken things even further by using a softer 1025E metal in a one-piece construction. The result? An even softer feel for approaches into the green, where forgiveness is less important.

Another standout feature is Mizuno’s extensive customisation options. They offer one of the largest selections of no-upcharge shafts, along with a huge range of grips, allowing you to fine-tune these irons to your exact preferences.

With so much great equipment released recently, it’s hard to pick favourites. But there’s a very real chance these irons will stay in the bag this year.

The Deep Dive: It has been 10 years since PXG brought out its first irons, the 0311, and tried to give the golf world something that many people didn’t think was possible—a true game-improvement club that enhanced distance and feel, yet looked like a better-player’s iron.

Today, PXG’s GEN8 irons build on a decade of refinement, but have the same mission.

Recently released PXG irons were designed with a large weight behind the center of gravity in the back of the head. That approach preserved CG location when weights were swapped to adjust the swing weight, but it limited gains in moment of inertia (MOI) and reduced perimeter weighting. Now, with GEN8, PXG split that mass and pushed it out to the heel and toe. Even in the neutral configuration, going with two weights instead of one creates a noticeable jump in forgiveness because the heads are more stable through impact on off-center hits.

More interesting, though, is what happens when the weights move. Shifting mass toward the heel or toe alters both CG location and the club’s resistance to face rotation around the shaft axis, subtly influencing how easily the face closes or stays open. And PXG’s testing showed these changes were not theoretical; players could feel the difference and launch monitor data confirmed measurable differences in face angle and shot pattern when the 10 grams of total mass that is split isn’t split into two 5-gram weights, but instead into a 4-gram and 6-gram or 3-gram and 7-gram.

That adjustability sits on top of a manufacturing process PXG loves to discuss. The GEN8 irons are fully forged using 8620 carbon steel, despite their complex internal geometry, using a five-step forging process allows PXG to create thin walls, deep cavities and internal channels that would normally require casting. It is a more expensive approach, but one PXG believes is essential to both performance and quality.

Internally, GEN8 continues PXG’s evolution away from energy-absorbing polymers. Earlier generations of the brand’s irons used softer materials primarily to improve sound and feel. Over time, PXG shifted toward a more resilient internal polymer called QuantumCore that is designed to support the face and return more energy to the ball. The result is a face that flexes efficiently without relying on excessive damping, helping maintain ball speed while still producing a solid, controlled feel.

The lineup within GEN8 is tiered.

The GEN8 T is compact, with minimal offset and a thinner top line, aimed at players who value precision and workability but still want modern ball speed.
The GEN8 P sits in the middle, blending a slightly larger profile with forgiveness that does not overwhelm the better player visually.
The GEN8 XP leans fully into distance and stability, with stronger lofts, wider soles and more offset to help golfers launch the ball high and keep speed on off-center strikes.

Taken as a whole, GEN8 feels less like a tweak and more like a platform shift for PXG. The brand is leaning into adjustability, manufacturing precision and energy management, while still offering distinct shapes and setups for very different types of golfers.

Irons, on the other hand, have traditionally been a place where you pick your head, pick your shaft, bend the loft and lie if needed, and call it a day.

Enter PXG with the new GEN8 series of irons. With one look at the back of GEN8 T, GEN8 P or GEN8 XP you will easily see that the Scottsdale, Arizona-based brand is bringing something new to the party.

In previously released irons like the GEN7, PXG irons placed a large weight in the middle of the back of each head. It helped lower the center of gravity (CG) and allowed players to test different swing weights during fitting sessions. With GEN8, PXG split that mass into two weights and pushed them outward, toward the heel and toe. Even in the neutral configuration, that change delivers a noticeable jump in forgiveness because the added max in the heel and toe makes the GEN8 irons more stable and less likely to twist on off-center strikes.

And to answer the question that is likely popping into many golfers’ minds right now, yes, PXG can put different weights in the ports to alter both CG location and the club’s resistance to face rotation. Most golfers will likely have the same amount of weight in the heel and toe, but adding extra weight to the toe should slow rotation for golfers who tend to shut the face too much and hook shots, while adding weight to the heel should encourage rotation and lead to fewer fanned shots to the right. PXG’s testing showed these changes were not theoretical. Players could feel them, and launch monitor data confirmed measurable differences in face angle and shot pattern.

That adjustability sits atop a manufacturing process that PXG is eager to continue using. The GEN8 irons are fully forged in a five-step process that allows PXG to create thin walls, deep cavities and internal channels that would typically require casting, while preserving the consistency of a forged head. It is a more expensive approach, but one PXG believes is essential to both performance and perceived quality.

Earlier PXG irons used softer internal polymers to improve sound and feel. Over time, PXG has shifted toward a more resilient internal polymer material that supports the face and returns energy to the ball more efficiently. The company calls it QuantumCOR, and adding it inside the head of each GEN8 iron results in a face that flexes efficiently and reduces excessive vibrations while still producing a solid, controlled feel.

The lineup within the GEN8 family mimics what we have seen in recent years from PXG:

The GEN8 T is compact, with minimal offset and a thinner top line, aimed at players who value precision and workability but still want modern ball speed.
The GEN8 P sits in the middle, blending a slightly larger profile with forgiveness that does not overwhelm the better player visually.
The GEN8 XP leans fully into distance and stability, with stronger lofts, wider soles and more offset to help golfers launch the ball high and keep speed on off-center strikes.

Taken as a whole, GEN8 feels less like a tweak and more like a platform shift. It is PXG leaning into adjustability, manufacturing precision and energy management, while still offering distinct shapes and setups for very different types of golfers.
