Justin Rose produced one of the finest performances of his career as he secured the 13th PGA Tour title of his career with a historic victory at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.

The Englishman led from start to finish in California, becoming the first player since 1955 to record a wire to wire win at the event.

Rose closed the week on twenty three under par, the lowest winning total in the seventy four year history of the tournament, beating the previous record of twenty two under set by Tiger Woods in 1999 and George Burns in 1987.

Record breaking week at Torrey Pines

Rose arrived at the final round holding a commanding six shot lead and safely converted it with a steady two under par round of seventy on Sunday.

His victory was built on a blistering start to the week, highlighted by an opening round sixty two on Thursday which immediately set the tone.

The forty five year old recaptured the title he last won in 2019 and ended the week seven shots clear of the chasing pack.

That margin of victory was just one short of the tournament record, which remains the eight shot win recorded by Woods in 2008.

Reflecting on his achievement, Rose said he felt in control throughout the final day and was motivated by the chance to set a new tournament benchmark.

He added that once he made an early birdie, he sensed the day was shaping up perfectly and remained focused on finishing the job strongly.

Closest challengers left trailing

Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune claimed a share of second place on sixteen under par alongside South Korea’s Si Woo Kim and American Pierceson Coody.

Joel Dahmen began the final round in solo second but slipped back to a tie for seventh after a dropped shot on Sunday.

Ireland’s Seamus Power signed off with a one under par round, birdieing the seventeenth to finish the week on eleven under.

The victory also lifted Rose to third place in the early FedExCup standings, underlining his strong start to the season and marking another milestone moment in an already distinguished career.

Justin Rose is 18 holes away from his 13th PGA Tour win and second Farmers Insurance Open title.

The 45-year-old Englishman opened with rounds of 62 and 65 before posting a four-under 68 on Saturday to take a six-shot lead over Joel Dahmen into Sunday’s final round.

“There’s never going to be any complacency,” Rose said after Saturday’s round. “You know, I think there’s always enough respect for the game of golf in the back of your mind that you’ve got to do everything right tomorrow. You’re going to come out, have to be focused, have to play well.”

The 38-year-old Dahmen lost his full-time playing privileges by finishing outside the FedEx Cup points list in the fall. He got into the Farmers Insurance Open field as the fifth alternate and has made the most of his opportunity. Dahmen opened with a 70 but then made three eagles en route to a Friday 63 to put himself in Saturday’s final threesome with Rose and Seamus Power. Dahmen matched Rose’s 68 on Saturday and will arrive at Torrey Pines on Sunday hoping to go low or at least play well enough to finish right behind Rose and put himself in position to get into the first two Signature Events of the season.

“My only hope is if he doesn’t set his alarm or he somehow starts hitting in the rough on the back nine maybe,” Dahmen joked after the round. “I don’t know. The way he’s playing and what he’s doing, I would be pleased with second place.”

Rose, Dahmen and Ryo Hisatsune will get their final round underway at 12:37 p.m. ET.

Featured tee time for Round 3

Brooks Koepka’s PGA Tour return stole the headlines this week, and in his first start since leaving LIV Golf, Koepka will be around for the weekend, firing rounds of 73-68 to make the cut on the number at three under par.

If he wants to get back into the mix and contend, though, he has a lot of work to do in the next two rounds. Koepka currently trails the tournament leader, Justin Rose, by a whopping 14 shots.

Rose holds a four-shot lead over Irishman Seamus Power heading into the weekend after Rose fired rounds of 62-65 to reach 17 under.

A win this week would mark the 13th of Rose’s PGA Tour career — and his second Farmers Insurance title, after winning the tournament in 2019.

Rose will get his third round started on Saturday afternoon in the final grouping alongside Power and Joel Dahmen (-11) at 1:07 p.m. ET.
