Odyssey shifts zero torque toward a more traditional look with new Tri-Hot SB putters featuring heel-ward shafts and familiar shapes.

Gear: Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot SB putters

Price: $599.99 (Rossie, Jailbird, #7), $649.99 (#7 Cruiser)

Specs: Aluminum chassis with tungsten weights, two-layer grooved urethane insert, single-bend and heel-shafted configurations.

Available: April 24

Who it’s for: Golfers intrigued by zero-torque performance, but who prefer a more traditional look and setup at address.

What you should know: Odyssey is expanding its zero-torque lineup by shifting the design away from center-shafted looks and designs. With more familiar shapes fitted with heel-ward, single-bend shaft positions, designers could maintain the face stability and benefits of zero torque in a putter that looks like a traditional offering.

The Deep Dive: Zero torque has gone from a niche curiosity to one of the most talked-about trends in golf, but it hasn’t been without its compromises. For a lot of golfers, the biggest hurdle hasn’t been performance; it’s been how these putters look and how they ask you to set up. They didn’t like the built-in forward shaft lean, the center-shafted design and the lack of long, unobstructed alignment aids.

Those are the problems Odyssey solved with the new S2S Tri-Hot SB line.

At the heart of the design is a story about weight distribution and how changing it unlocked design options. By adding tungsten to the front of putter, using stainless steel in the center section and then lightweight aluminum for everything behind that, Odyssey engineers pushed the center of gravity (CG) significantly forward. That allowed them to bring the shaft entry point forward, into the topline, which helps eliminate forward shaft lean and creates a more natural, square setup at address. The change sounds subtle, but it has a noticeable effect because instead of feeling like you need to manipulate the handle or adjust your posture, the putter naturally sits in a more familiar position.

Odyssey had done all of that in the S2S Tri Hot putters that it recently released, but the bigger story is the move away from center-shafted designs. With the SB, or single-bend configuration, the shaft enters the head toward the heel, giving the Rossie, Jailbird and #7 shapes a more traditional appearance. This addressed the concerns of players who don’t like center-shafted designs but who are interested in zero-torque performance. It also cleared the way for larger, unobstructed sightlines and shapes that golfers already recognize, but with a different torque profile through the stroke.

The face technology follows a similar theme of blending familiarity with something new. The Ai Dual insert, which was developed using artificial intelligence, has a soft outer layer covering a firmer inner core to help normalize ball speed while promoting more consistent forward roll across the face. That’s enhanced by Forward Roll Design grooves, which are angled downward at a 19-degree angle to also help get the ball rolling sooner rather than skidding.

For golfers who prefer a longer, counterbalanced-style setup, the #7 Cruiser adds that option. At 38 inches in length and standard-equipped with a heavier head and extended grip, it’s built for players who like to quiet their hands and smooth out their tempo.

Taken together, the S2S Tri-Hot SB line feels like a deliberate, measured result of trying to make zero torque less of a leap. If you’ve been curious about the performance benefits but haven’t been sold on the look, this is Odyssey’s pitch: Enhanced consistency packaged in a way that feels a lot more familiar when you stand over the ball.

For Players Who Love the Woods But Never Want to Find Them

Link to High-Res Imagery

Carlsbad, Calif. – COBRA® Golf, a leader in golf club innovation, today announced its collaboration with Realtree® with the release of a limited-edition COBRA x REALTREE OPTM X driver. The driver features the same performance as the standard OPTM X driver and is now wrapped in Realtree’s signature camo pattern, Realtree Edge, combining COBRA’s most advanced metalwood technology with one of the most recognizable camo patterns in outdoor culture.

“Golfers and hunters both share a love of the outdoors, so partnering with Realtree felt like a natural fit,” said Jose Miraflor, Vice President of Product Architecture for Cobra Golf. “The OPTM X driver is built for precision and performance, and now it features Realtree’s iconic camo pattern for golfers who love the woods but prefer to keep their golf balls out of them.”

“Working with Cobra’s design team to bring the Realtree OPTM driver to life has been an incredible experience. Their attention to detail reflects the high quality and innovation they consistently bring to the market, and we’re honored to be part of such a unique collaboration,” said Michael Riggs, Business Development Manager.

Like the standard OPTM X driver, the limited-edition REALTREE version features impressive technologies includingPOI (Product of Inertia) Shaping, Adaptive POI Weighting, H.O.T. Face and FUTUREFIT33™. The groundbreaking new low POI design of the OPTM X driver, which is delivered via both improved shaping and adaptive weighting, works with Cobra’s other metalwood technologies to reduce shot dispersion by up to 23 percent. Unlike traditional MOI designs, Cobra’s POI approach measures how the clubhead rotates diagonally across multiple axes at once. For that reason, a high MOI is desired to correct off-center hits while a low POI is desired to deliver more accurate shots that don’t create as much gear effect. The result is tighter dispersion downrange.

The new COBRA x REALTREE limited-edition driver also features COBRA’s game-changing FUTUREFIT33 ADJUSTABLE HOSEL SYSTEM, which is the most significant and innovative metalwood fitting technology to date. The system allows for 33 unique loft and lie settings that can be adjusted independently, unlocking an unprecedented number of fitting options.

The COBRA x REALTREE OPTM X driver ($699) comes in 10.5-degrees in RH with limited-edition headcover and Mitsubishi 1K Tensei Black shaft. It will be produced in limited quantities and is only available while supplies last, beginning Tuesday, March 31.

TaylorMade TP5, TP5x Flamingo pix golf balls bring tropical flair https://ultragolfing.com/taylormade-tp5-tp5x-flamingo-pix-golf-balls-bring-tropical-flair/ https://ultragolfing.com/taylormade-tp5-tp5x-flamingo-pix-golf-balls-bring-tropical-flair/#respond Tue, 14 Apr 2026 01:49:15 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/taylormade-tp5-tp5x-flamingo-pix-golf-balls-bring-tropical-flair/

TaylorMade’s limited TP5 and TP5x Flamingo pix balls add tropical graphics and visual alignment to the company’s five-layer Tour models.

Certain things instantly signal you’ve arrived somewhere warm. Palm trees. Pink flamingos. A sunset that looks like it was a part of the opening montage on Miami Vice. TaylorMade is leaning into that vibe with its latest limited-edition golf balls, the TP5 and TP5x Flamingo Pix.

The balls come wrapped in packaging that looks like it belongs on a postcard from South Beach. Each dozen is covered in a tropical beach scene with palm trees, a setting sun and a flamingo standing in the water. Inside the boxes, TP5x balls come in sandy yellow sleeves and feature seafoam green numbers. The TP5 balls come in powder blue sleeves and have pink numbers. The back of the box adds a playful warning: “No beach balls. No splashing.”

Underneath the tropical graphics, these balls have the same performance characteristics that have made the TP5 and TP5x two of TaylorMade’s flagship models. Both balls feature a five-layer construction and a soft urethane cover designed to balance speed with control. The TP5 is the softer-feeling option, producing slightly higher launch and more spin around the greens, which can appeal to golfers who want a bit more stopping power with wedges and short irons.

The TP5x sits on the firmer, faster side of the spectrum. It tends to launch a little lower with irons and produce slightly less spin, characteristics many players prefer when trying to maximize distance and maintain a more penetrating ball flight.

What makes these balls visually distinctive, though, is TaylorMade’s Pix pattern. Yes, the design is decorative, but the pattern creates a high-contrast visual that helps golfers see the ball’s rotation more clearly during putting and chipping, offering a quick visual cue about whether the ball is rolling end over end or wobbling offline. In other words, the flamingos are doing a little diagnostic work while you’re trying to hole a 12-footer.

At $64.99 per dozen, the TP5 and TP5x Flamingo balls bring a splash of tropical color to TaylorMade’s tour lineup. They won’t make the fairway look like Ocean Drive, but they might make your next round feel a little more like a day at the beach. Just remember the rule printed on the box: No beach balls. And definitely no splashing.

Callaway Chrome Tour Retro balls bring Rule 35 back to life https://ultragolfing.com/callaway-chrome-tour-retro-balls-bring-rule-35-back-to-life/ https://ultragolfing.com/callaway-chrome-tour-retro-balls-bring-rule-35-back-to-life/#respond Tue, 31 Mar 2026 12:51:06 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/callaway-chrome-tour-retro-balls-bring-rule-35-back-to-life/

Callaway’s Chrome Tour Retro balls revive the Rule 35 look with modern speed, flight consistency and greenside control.

There’s something fitting about Callaway reaching back to where it all started at a time when its golf ball lineup feels so complete.

In 2000, the company started in the ball market with Rule 35, a simple idea dressed up with a bit of personality. Instead of overwhelming golfers with options, Callaway offered two: the softer Blue and firmer Red. The company even added its own unofficial “35th rule” to the game: Enjoy it.

Now, more than two decades later, Rule 35 is being revisited through a modern lens.

Callaway’s new Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X Retro Collection golf balls take that original Rule 35 aesthetic and pair it with the technologies in the company’s current flagship balls, Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X. The result is a limited-edition release that leans on nostalgia while giving golfers modern performance.

The connection to Rule 35 is more than cosmetic because these balls are meant to give golfers clear choices. Chrome Tour is for players who prefer a slightly softer feel and a more balanced performance profile, while Chrome Tour X has a firmer feel, higher speed and a more penetrating flight.

On the outside, both balls look vintage, but under the hood, they’re both as modern as any golf balls on the shelf at your local pro shop.

Both models feature Callaway’s Tour Fast Mantle, a layer designed with a higher flex modulus that acts more like a spring to increase ball speed and overall distance. They also feature Callaway’s Seamless Tour Aero pattern, which is built to stabilize flight and maintain consistency, particularly when conditions aren’t perfect.

Around the greens, both balls rely on a thin urethane cover to help increase spin and control on approach shots, chips and pitch shots.

And then there’s the broader idea that ties this all together.

For golfers who remember Rule 35, this release will feel like a callback to a moment when Callaway was trying to prove it belonged in the ball category. For everyone else, it’s simply a Chrome Tour or Chrome Tour X with a different look and a bit of history baked in.

And that’s probably the right balance.

Because at the end of the day, nostalgia might get your attention, but performance is what puts the ball in play.

PXG GEN8 irons bring adjustable weighting to a forged iron design https://ultragolfing.com/pxg-gen8-irons-bring-adjustable-weighting-to-a-forged-iron-design/ https://ultragolfing.com/pxg-gen8-irons-bring-adjustable-weighting-to-a-forged-iron-design/#respond Sun, 18 Jan 2026 17:42:37 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/pxg-gen8-irons-bring-adjustable-weighting-to-a-forged-iron-design/

PXG’s GEN8 irons rethink iron design with perimeter-based weighting, forged construction and three models built for distinct player types.

Gear: PXG GEN8 T, P, XP irons

Price: TBD

Specs: Five-step forged body construction with deep internal cavities, flexible face, perimeter-based tungsten weighting system, internal polymer core and model-specific sole geometry

Available: TBD

Who it’s for: Better players looking for a compact, workable iron with modern ball speed (GEN8 T), golfers who want a balanced blend of forgiveness and control (GEN8 P), and players prioritizing distance, higher launch and maximum forgiveness (GEN8 XP).

What you should know: The GEN8 iron family marks a significant shift in the brand’s design philosophy, replacing center-loaded mass with adjustable perimeter weighting that increases forgiveness and allows meaningful shot-shape tuning without changing the clubhead itself.

The Deep Dive: There’s always been a reason adjustable drivers have become standard, and adjustable irons are unicorns. Drivers are big enough to house the adjustable mechanisms, and golfers over the last two decades have gotten used to tinkering with loft sleeves and movable weights. Irons, on the other hand, have traditionally been a place where you pick your head, pick your shaft, bend the loft and lie if needed, and call it a day.

Enter PXG with the new GEN8 series of irons. With one look at the back of GEN8 T, GEN8 P or GEN8 XP you will easily see that the Scottsdale, Arizona-based brand is bringing something new to the party.

In previously released irons like the GEN7, PXG irons placed a large weight in the middle of the back of each head. It helped lower the center of gravity (CG) and allowed players to test different swing weights during fitting sessions. With GEN8, PXG split that mass into two weights and pushed them outward, toward the heel and toe. Even in the neutral configuration, that change delivers a noticeable jump in forgiveness because the added max in the heel and toe makes the GEN8 irons more stable and less likely to twist on off-center strikes.

And to answer the question that is likely popping into many golfers’ minds right now, yes, PXG can put different weights in the ports to alter both CG location and the club’s resistance to face rotation. Most golfers will likely have the same amount of weight in the heel and toe, but adding extra weight to the toe should slow rotation for golfers who tend to shut the face too much and hook shots, while adding weight to the heel should encourage rotation and lead to fewer fanned shots to the right. PXG’s testing showed these changes were not theoretical. Players could feel them, and launch monitor data confirmed measurable differences in face angle and shot pattern.

That adjustability sits atop a manufacturing process that PXG is eager to continue using. The GEN8 irons are fully forged in a five-step process that allows PXG to create thin walls, deep cavities and internal channels that would typically require casting, while preserving the consistency of a forged head. It is a more expensive approach, but one PXG believes is essential to both performance and perceived quality.

Earlier PXG irons used softer internal polymers to improve sound and feel. Over time, PXG has shifted toward a more resilient internal polymer material that supports the face and returns energy to the ball more efficiently. The company calls it QuantumCOR, and adding it inside the head of each GEN8 iron results in a face that flexes efficiently and reduces excessive vibrations while still producing a solid, controlled feel.

The lineup within the GEN8 family mimics what we have seen in recent years from PXG:

  • The GEN8 T is compact, with minimal offset and a thinner top line, aimed at players who value precision and workability but still want modern ball speed.
  • The GEN8 P sits in the middle, blending a slightly larger profile with forgiveness that does not overwhelm the better player visually.
  • The GEN8 XP leans fully into distance and stability, with stronger lofts, wider soles and more offset to help golfers launch the ball high and keep speed on off-center strikes.

Taken as a whole, GEN8 feels less like a tweak and more like a platform shift. It is PXG leaning into adjustability, manufacturing precision and energy management, while still offering distinct shapes and setups for very different types of golfers.
