Yes, it’s red, white and blue, but the Liberty Line Collection is tons to Philadelphia-inspired details and images in honor of Aronimink’s home town.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. — Philadelphia doesn’t do disposable history. This is the city where independence was argued into existence by men wearing wool coats in the middle of summer and it feels like every brick building downtown has a plaque explaining why the country changed because of something that happened inside. Like Boston and New York, this Northeast is heavy with symbolism, so you don’t have to force it.

That’s what makes TaylorMade’s new Liberty Line Collection for the 2026 PGA Championship work better than most commemorative major championship gear.

The easy thing would have been to slap an American flag on a white staff bag, add a few stars near the valuables pocket and call it a day, but these bags, head covers and accessories have a lot more detail and thought than that.

The centerpiece is the Liberty Line staff bag ($699.99), and honestly, the most impressive part of it is the restraint. Yes, it’s white with red and blue accents, but there’s also “City of Brotherly Love” on the base, a 13-starred, colonial-style American flag on the handle, a Liberty Bell with “250th Anniversary of America’s Found” on the ball pocket and an image of Independence Hall has been added to the back-main pocket. Benjamin Franklin’s image is on the valuable’s pocket and each zipper has a tab that says “Love” on it with the round TaylorMade logo added instead of the O.

The stand bag ($279.99) carries the same design language into a more practical setup. Built on the FlexTech platform and weighing 4.5 pounds, it’s aimed at golfers who actually walk instead of simply displaying the thing in a simulator room. The red, white and blue paneling runs throughout without becoming overpowering, and the shared zipper-pull details tie it neatly back to the staff bag.

The headcovers complete the collection in a nostalgic way. The driver cover ($79.99) leans clean and traditional with white, blue and red accents. The Benjamin Franklin fairway wood cover ($69.99) has an Andy Warhol style to it and the hybrid cover ($69.99) might actually be the sleeper of the entire collection because the knit pom-pom look feels genuinely classic instead of trying too hard to look retro.

There are also commemorative Spider and blade-style putter covers available too.

Commemorative golf gear often struggles because it tries to communicate too much all at once. Patriotism. History. Prestige. Championship golf. Brand identity. This one understands something important: Philadelphia and the PGA Championship are already supplying the gravitas. TaylorMade simply had to build around it.

J.J. Spaun breaks slump, wins Valero Texas Open ahead of Masters https://ultragolfing.com/j-j-spaun-breaks-slump-wins-valero-texas-open-ahead-of-masters/ https://ultragolfing.com/j-j-spaun-breaks-slump-wins-valero-texas-open-ahead-of-masters/#respond Mon, 06 Apr 2026 02:39:50 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/j-j-spaun-breaks-slump-wins-valero-texas-open-ahead-of-masters/

J.J. Spaun had a dream season in 2025. But for the first few months of his follow-up campaign, things looked more like a nightmare.

Through seven starts entering this week, Spaun had made just three cuts, with a T24 finish standing as his high-water mark. His strokes-gained metrics had declined across the board, and his putting was so poor that he ranked among the 10 worst on Tour.

At TPC San Antonio, none of that mattered.

Spaun, playing this week as a final tune-up before the Masters, fired a final-round 67 to win the Valero Texas Open by one shot over Matt Wallace, Michael Kim and Robert MacIntyre. The victory marked Spaun’s second at the Texas Open (he also won in 2022) and the third of his PGA Tour career.

“I haven’t been in the form I wanted based on last season,” Spaun said. “It means a lot to come back and win here at a place that’s been so good to me.”

Returning to a course filled with positive memories proved to be the spark he needed. At the Players, Spaun recorded his best finish of the season to that point with a T24. He missed the cut the following week at the Valspar, but a return to the familiar setting of the Texas Hill Country seemed to bring something out of him.

After opening with back-to-back rounds of 69, Spaun surged over the weekend in soggy conditions. With play suspended midway through his third round on Saturday, he returned early Sunday morning to complete a six-under 66, putting himself firmly in contention. When the final round began, he kept the momentum rolling, carding four birdies and an eagle en route to a five-under 67 to claim the clubhouse lead. When none of the contenders on the course could track him down, the burden of his nightmare start had finally been lifted.

“I put a lot of pressure on myself at the start of the year, and a lot of expectations,” Spaun said. “It’s the complete opposite of the mantra I had all year last year that really helped me, so I tried to get back to that. Went into the last few weeks starting at The Players just trying to be freed up and put less pressure on myself. It’s been trying, but sticking to that mantra has really helped me.”

With the win, Spaun earns a custom pair of cowboy boots and a $1.76 million paycheck. More importantly, he heads to Augusta for the Masters in his best form of the season — and you can’t put a price tag on that.

Wisconsin golf course to close in 2027 for renovations ahead of USGA events https://ultragolfing.com/wisconsin-golf-course-to-close-in-2027-for-renovations-ahead-of-usga-events/ https://ultragolfing.com/wisconsin-golf-course-to-close-in-2027-for-renovations-ahead-of-usga-events/#respond Sun, 15 Feb 2026 16:44:44 +0000 https://ultragolfing.com/wisconsin-golf-course-to-close-in-2027-for-renovations-ahead-of-usga-events/

The Stevens Point golf course will update its course ahead of hosting the 2028 U.S. Senior Women’s Open and the 2034 U.S. Senior Open.

STEVENS POINT, Wisconsin – SentryWorld will close its golf course in 2027 for renovations ahead of two national championships.

SentryWorld announced Jan. 27 it will be making “significant refinements” to the golf course, including installing a state-of-the-art irrigation system, redesigning select green complexes, reconfiguring tree complexes to support championship play and accommodate a broad range of players, renovating bunkers, creating an enhanced barrier for privacy along the interstate, refining and enhancing the practice facility and adding and improving infrastructure to enhance sustainability and playability of the course.

The renovation announcement follows the Jan. 13 announcement that SentryWorld would host the 2028 U.S. Senior Women’s Open and the 2034 U.S. Senior Open.

Pete McPartland, Sentry’s chairman and CEO, said the renovations show Sentry’s long-term investment in championship golf and reinforce its ability to host high-caliber events.

“As we think about our next 50 years, it is important to ensure that we honor our history while staying at the forefront of golf design and maintenance,” McPartland said.

Other SentryWorld amenities will remain open

As Sentry prepares to start renovations, SentryWorld’s golf course will be closed for the 2027 golf season.

While crews work on the course, other SentryWorld amenities like The Inn at SentryWorld, PJ’s, Muse, banquet facilities and the fieldhouse will remain open.

More about the renovation project

Mike James, the general manager of SentryWorld, said the course delivered exceptional course conditions for the 2019 U.S. Girls’ Junior and the 2023 U.S. Senior Open tournaments, and SentryWorld is aiming to continue raising the bar as more tournaments will be hosted at the course.

SentryWorld will be working with golf course designer Jay Blasi, a Wisconsin native who worked with the company on its 2013 renovation project.

LaBar Golf will be the golf and irrigation contractor on the project. The group has previously worked on other USGA Championship venues and focuses on golf course renovations, including bunker redesigns, tee and green construction, environmental enhancements, irrigation services and more.

Josh Lewis will oversee construction as project manager, and SentryWorld will again work with Derek Dirksen on shaping the course after previously working on the 2013 project.
